Eurostat – The areas with the youngest populations in Greece?
The islands of the North Aegean have the lowest average age in all of Greece, in complete contrast to the region of Epirus, which is considered the most aged region in the country.
This is clear from the new Eurostat data on the average age of European Union citizens.
It is characteristic that the average age of the inhabitants in the islands of the North Aegean is under 40 years, and specifically 39.9 years. The second “youngest” region is that of the South Aegean, where the average age is 41.8 years. The average age of the inhabitants of Crete is also set at 42.5 years.
The above three regions are the only ones, which have a lower average age compared to the average of the countries of the European Union, which amounts to 43.9 years.
In Attica, for example, the average is 44.6 years, in western Greece 45.2 years, in Central Greece 45.9 years, in the Ionian Islands 46.7 years, in the Peloponnese 47.6 years and in Epirus 48 , 4 years.
As for the most aged region in Europe, this is the Chemnitz region in Germany with an average age of 52 years. It is followed by the Italian region Liguria with 51.4 years and the -also- German Sachsen-Anhalt with 51.2 years. In contrast, the “youngest” region belongs to France (although not on European territory) and is the island of Mayotte, north of Madagascar, with an average age of just 17.7 years.
